The Lesser Poland is full of tourist attractions inlcuding famous UNESCO sights and national parks in the mountains. However, in my opinion the real treasures are hidden away from the busy touristy routs. Travelling along winding roads of Lesser Poland you can come across medieval castles and little towns, wooden architecture, synagogues, old cemeteries, orthodox churches and many others.
That’s because the Lesser Poland is one of the oldest historical regions of Poland. Therefore, it witnessed some of the most significant events in history of our country and numerous monuments testify to its importance and glory days. Moreover, people of different nationalities and religions had been living here and contributed to local heritage. Consequently, you can find here traces of Jews, Lemkos, Ukrainians and Poles.
To give you the best picture of this region’s diversity and uniqueness, I designed the tour Little gems of the Lesser Poland. Firstly, I would like to take you to a mighty castle in Nowy Wiśnicz. Next we will visit two wooden religious sights: UNESCO church in Lipnica Murowana and unique synagogue in Bobowa. In this little village we can also visit a Jewish cemetry.
Finally, we will drive to Stary Sącz – one of the oldest towns in Poland – to visit 13th century convent of the Poor Clares. This little town has retained its provincial charm and medieval character.
If time and weather allow we can also reach a viewpoint in a remote Wola Krogulecka to admire panorama of Beskid Sądecki or/and we visit the open-air museum in Nowy Sącz.
This is a full day trip by car. It includes a lot of driving but also a lot of beautiful landscapes and fascinating stories about Polish history, culture and traditions.
